The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 37-year-old man from Musella, Georgia, was driving his Chevrolet Silverado southbound just before 10 p.m. when he entered a closed lane in an active construction zone and struck a parked Ford F-550 work vehicle operated by a Tampa construction crew. The Georgia driver died as a result of the crash. Three construction workers in the Ford F-550 were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Debris from the collision struck a third vehicle driven by an 18-year-old man from Largo, who was not injured.
Officials have stressed the dangers posed by work zones and urged drivers to obey posted lane closures and slow down to protect both construction personnel and fellow motorists. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as troopers continue gathering evidence and reviewing the circumstances leading up to the collision.
